Charitable Giving

Our mission is to provide safe, clean and reliable electricity, with a vision to do so much more. We believe in giving back to the communities where we work and serve. We are your neighbors, friends and community leaders. Through partnerships with local nonprofits and charitable organizations, we strive to create a lasting impact with those in need.

It's our privilege to give back to the communities we serve, building a brighter future for Oklahoma.

PSO CONNECTS Grants

Through our PSO CONNECTS program, employees and retirees who volunteer get mini-grants for the nonprofit organizations and schools for which they volunteer.

Teacher Vision Grants

We believe education is the key to a better future. We're proud to participate in school partnerships, encourage young children to learn about electrical safety, support Science-Technology-Engineering-Math (STEM) initiatives, and much more. We believe educators motivate youth to think creatively, to step into leadership roles and to address the challenges of the future. If adequate funding is all that stands between an educator and a new classroom adventure, American Electric Power's Teacher Vision Grant program may help.

Robotics Grants

We granted nearly $20,150 to 31 robotics teams in our service area in 2020. The funds are provided through AEP's FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) Robotics Grants initiative, which is one of several company-wide programs to support Pre-K through Grade 12 student education emphasizing STEM: Science, Technology, Engineering and Math.

FIRST is a multi-national robotics competition that teams up professionals and students to solve an engineering problem in an intense and competitive way. More information on FIRST robotics programs can be found at https://aep.com/community/education. Submit your application by midnight EST, January 28, 2022 at https://aep.com/AEPFIRSTGrant.

Early Childhood Education

We strongly support early childhood education. For over a decade, we have partnered with Tulsa's John Hope Franklin Elementary (formally the Bunche Early Childhood Development Center) where employees read to 4 & 5-year-olds every Friday during the school year. We also work with external organizations throughout our state to actively support early childhood efforts. We also partner with our communities to celebrate the Week of the Young Child each April.

Oklahoma FFA

We support Oklahoma FFA and its mission to help students develop their potential for leadership, personal growth and career success through agricultural education. To elevate awareness of the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) component of agricultural education, we award thousands of dollars in scholarships for student research projects in energy, the environment and electricity as well as provide financial incentives for outstanding FFA instructors. Along with the AEP Foundation, we recently announced a “STEM After-School” program, which provides mini-grants to selected FFA chapters in our service area for use in after-school projects that are STEM-related. We also sponsor Oklahoma FFA's State Convention and Oklahoma FFA's Chapter Officer Leadership Training (COLT). FFA chapters in areas across the state have the opportunity to apply for American Electric Power Foundation FFA STEM After-School grants. Grant applications are available on the Oklahoma FFA Foundation's website at www.okffa.org with the application period from June 1 through July 10. View the 2022 AEP Foundation FFA STEM After-School Grant Winners.

School Partnerships

We're a formal Partner in Education with three Tulsa Public Schools, through the Partners in Education program of the Foundation for Tulsa Schools: Central Jr-Sr High School (since 1984), Wayman Tisdale Fine Arts Academy (since 2016) and John Hope Franklin Elementary (since 2004). Our involvement includes: providing teacher appreciation events; attendance incentives; underwriting student field trips to college campuses; assisting students and families with applying for the Oklahoma Promise program and the FAFSA program; career fairs; providing school supplies; employee volunteers who serve as Reading Partners literacy tutors, Me and My Math Mentor math tutors, class testing monitors, and weekly classroom readers to preschool classes. Our employees also volunteer alongside seniors from Central High School each year, for the Tulsa Area United Way Day of Caring. Additionally, we've given $4500 to the Wayman Tisdale Fine Arts Academy for its Club Friday before and after school program to provide enhancement opportunities to students based on interests like theater, photography, robotics, art, dance and writing.

Central Junior-Senior High School

We've been partners with Central Junior-Senior High School since 1984 – a perfect match, since we're headquartered in the renovated building that housed the original school for 60 years. In 2015, we were named Partner of the Year by the Tulsa Regional Chamber to recognize our 30+ years of commitment to supporting Central.

We provide Central various types of assistance to support students, teachers and administrators. Over the years our partnership has included:

  • Launching and funding Leadership Central, a leadership program for selected seniors to visit college campuses, receive career awareness opportunities, and meet with business executives.
  • Funding caps and gowns for graduating seniors who are unable to pay for them, so they can walk across the stage with their peers.
  • Delivering holiday food baskets to Central students and their families in need at Thanksgiving.
  • Volunteering with Central students each year for the Tulsa Area United Way Day of Caring.
  • Volunteering for mock job interviews, test taking, job shadowing, career fairs and classroom presentations.
  • Providing Tulsa Ballet season tickets to the Dance Department.
  • Sponsoring an annual year-end Teacher/Staff Appreciation Luncheon.
  • Sponsoring the Senior Breakfast and the Eighth Grade Graduation Breakfast.
  • Sponsoring a "Braves Buck" store where students may shop for small items, when exhibiting leadership and role-model behavior.
  • Sponsoring the Yearbook.
  • Providing in-kind printing for projects such as the senior student portfolios.
  • Working with science teachers and the District to launch a recycling program on campus.
  • Providing applications to the company's Classroom Teacher Grant program for additional funding for enhanced curriculum and special projects.
