TULSA, Okla. (December 9, 2024) – Public Service Company of Oklahoma (PSO) is partnering with the Cherokee Nation to help provide thousands of free lightbulbs to families in need. The partnership represents an extension of PSO’s Shine A Light program, which works with dozens of area food pantries to distribute lightbulbs to struggling families across the state.
“PSO is proud to bring the Cherokee Nation and Shine A Light together for the first time this year,” said PSO President and Chief Operating Officer Leigh Anne Strahler. “Our partnership distributed more than 10,000 energy efficient lightbulbs to Cherokee Nation elders across Green Country.”
In total, Shine A Light has distributed more than 76,000 lightbulbs this year. The LED bulbs will help Oklahomans save energy and money on utility bills – money they could use to help feed their families.
“We are grateful for the PSO Shine A Light program which is helping light up Cherokee elder homes across our reservation,” Cherokee Nation Principal Chief Chuck Hoskin Jr. said. “Among those receiving LED bulbs include our First Language Cherokee Speakers, which are yet another way we can help our elders with their housing needs so they can continue to focus on sharing our precious language.”
PSO’s Shine A Light program has distributed over 1 million energy efficient light bulbs in the past 11 years. That translates into more than 30 million kilowatt-hours of energy savings worth over $3 million.
LED bulbs last 25 times longer than incandescent bulbs and save energy and money. The Shine A Light project is available to food pantry clients but any PSO customer can take advantage of rebates and instant discounts on many energy-efficient products.
